March 2018
Dear Parish of Fundy and the Lakes Family,
The act of setting our clocks ahead this past Sunday was certainly a reminder we are moving along in our yearly calendar. The rituals, like the Annual Meeting, at the beginning of every new year are now behind us and we look forward to the imminent arrival of Spring and its usual warmer days.
It is difficult to believe Easter is only a couple of weeks away. As a result, I ask you what does the word Easter mean to you? Is the first thing that comes to mind chocolate? Is it the television commercial of a bunny clucking like a chicken and laying eggs? (I can’t honestly remember what they are trying to sell). Or do your thoughts go the actions of our Lord and Saviour?
Spiritually, this time of year means we are now getting ready to enter the solemnity of Holy Week leading to the Crucifixion and the celebration of the Resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ. We are all very familiar with the basics of the story which show the immense love which God, as our Creator and Heavenly Father, has for each and every one of us. And when we allow that knowledge to sink into our hearts and minds, it is amazing indeed!
Throughout Lent, we have been trying to deepen the knowledge of our Lord’s story with study, and how it affects us by taking the time to reflect on certain aspects of His life. At Christ the King, we have been blessed with four people sharing parts of their own faith story and how God’s love has affected their lives. This allowed us to see that God is still very much at work in our world and in our parish.
This year, I invite all of you to bring your faith stories to the foot of the empty Cross. By this, I mean that I invite you to join us in worship as we move towards Easter and focus your thoughts on what God has done for you personally or corporately as a parish. As a family, we can symbolically offer all of these as a thanksgiving to our Father for His continued presence in our lives.
May God continue to walk with us in the journey of our faith.
I pray God’s blessings on each and every one of you and I hope we can all join together in worship at some point in this wonderful and celebratory season of Easter.
The Reverend Canon Leo Martin
Rector
